Recognition on your device
No servers in the USA, no audio upload. Speech recognition and rewriting run locally.
If you are looking for a Wispr Flow alternative that works without the cloud, SpeechToWork is one. Both write into any app by voice and tidy up the text. The difference is the data flow: according to the provider, Wispr Flow always transcribes in the cloud and processes data in the USA. SpeechToWork runs speech recognition and AI on your Windows PC or Mac.

Wispr Flow is a mature dictation tool with clear strengths worth knowing:
By its own account, Wispr Flow is a cloud service. For businesses in the UK and EU this means:
For general text this may be acceptable. If you dictate patient data, client matters or HR issues, the transfer to a US service needs to be part of your data protection assessment. Our guide to GDPR-compliant AI explains what matters.
SpeechToWork fits if your dictations contain confidential information, you want to work offline or your data protection officer should not have to assess yet another US service provider. It also goes beyond dictation: call notes, meeting minutes and reading receipts.
Wispr Flow fits if you also want to dictate on an iPhone or Android phone, need many languages beyond Europe, use an Intel Mac or want to start with a free plan. SpeechToWork is only available for Windows and Macs with Apple silicon.
Both programs can be used side by side during the trial as long as they use different keys. For more programs, see dictation software compared.
Everything said about other providers comes from their own publications:

No servers in the USA, no audio upload. Speech recognition and rewriting run locally.
After the one-off model download you dictate offline, on a train or in a locked-down network.
19 € or 39 € a month per user plus VAT, no quota. 14-day trial without payment details.
Speech recognition and the language model are installed on your computer and run there. What you dictate ends up in your program and nowhere else. How the data flow works.
Audio and text stay on your computer. There is no server listening in and no AI provider in the background.
No third party processes your dictations. So there is no data processing agreement to sign and no international transfer to assess.
Once installed, SpeechToWork works offline. Only the licence check needs a connection.
Dictation software that runs speech recognition and AI on your own computer. Like Wispr Flow, SpeechToWork writes into any app and tidies up the text, but it processes everything locally on Windows 10 and 11 or on Macs with Apple silicon. Your dictations are not sent to a server, not even for recognition.
Not according to Wispr. Its privacy page says transcription always happens in the cloud, and the documentation describes no offline mode. If you want to dictate without internet, you need software with local speech recognition. SpeechToWork works offline after the one-off model download; only the licence check needs a connection.
Wispr offers a data processing addendum with EU standard contractual clauses and the UK Addendum, and states SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. According to the provider, data is processed in the USA. Whether that is enough for your content is your assessment; Wispr does not provide a transfer impact assessment. Local software avoids the transfer entirely.
Wispr Flow lists a free plan with 2,000 desktop words a week, Pro at 15 $ a month or 144 $ a year and Growth from 23 $. SpeechToWork costs 19 € a month plus VAT for Dictate and 39 € for Assistant, with no word limit. Instead of a free plan there is a 14-day trial without payment details.
No. SpeechToWork runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11 and on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. There is currently no phone app. You can, however, drag voice messages from your phone into SpeechToWork as files and have them transcribed locally on your computer. If you mainly dictate on the go, Wispr Flow suits you better.
Yes. Both programs can be installed at the same time as long as they use different keys. That way you compare recognition and rewriting with your own voice and your own texts. The SpeechToWork trial lasts 14 days, needs no payment details and ends on its own, with nothing to cancel.

SpeechToWork is new. Chrome, Edge and Windows SmartScreen only trust a file once it has been downloaded many times. For a new program they therefore show “Suspicious download” or “Windows protected your PC”. That is a judgement based on how well known the file is, not a malware finding.
The installer is digitally signed, publisher Danilo à Tellinghusen. To check, right-click the file, choose “Properties” and open the “Digital Signatures” tab. The Mac version is notarised by Apple.
